Change in plans! Because some folks understandably don't want to sign up for a Substack account just to vote, voting for the NES Indie Game Hall of Fame will instead occur *on-site* in three locations:
1. Here;
2. NESmakers (on Facebook); and
3. Video Game Sage.
Each polling place brings a unique perspective to the process, so I do hope folks here will participate.
I previously listed the voting rules (https://retrostack.substack.com/p/the-n ... -fame-open) at RETRO, but the upshot is that you cannot vote for any game you had anything to do with producing—unpaid playtesting aside—and you shouldn’t vote for any of the games already in the Hall: Böbl, Dungeons & Doomknights, Micro Mages, Spacegulls, and Witch n’ Wiz.
Beyond those restrictions, vote for any games you like (and if you need a refresher on your options, see here: https://retrostack.substack.com/p/the-t ... ames-vol-9).
I know some folks are hesitant about a Hall of Fame, but the purpose is really to answer the question I see on Reddit and Quora and social media fairly often: if I’m thinking of getting into NES homebrews, which games should I *start* with? If that question gets answered flippantly or self-interestedly—with, say, whatever game the answerer played last, or whatever game they were themselves involved in making—we might lose that prospective NES homebrew fan (or even a future NES homebrew developer) forever. So my goal with the Hall of Fame is to create a kind of community resource that expands outward into the current non-NES-homebrew fan community.
To vote, just drop in a comment on this thread the ten indie NES games you would put in the NES Indie Game Hall of Fame! (It’s okay to repeat some or all of your votes from the last open voting period in 2022, as while these votes will be merged with the 2022 votes, they are being treated as a new round of voting so that voters are free to stick with or switch from their prior votes).
