An NES & SMS in between console

It's more like an idea than anything but I think it'd be cool if in the future there could be a console with specs in between NES & SMS. Whether it's a newer system like the Commander X16 or a fantasy console like Pico 8 or Tic 80. I'll call it the MES (Master Entertainment System)

Controls: This should be straight forward. A rectangular controller with D-Pad, 2 action buttons and a Start/Pause button.

Sound: I had made a demo of how I imagined it should sound. I believe it was rushed and very short, but it gets the point across. I decided to just have 2 pulses (50% and 25% duty cycles), a "point wave" and noise. Don't know how samples (PCM or DPCM) should be implemented, maybe in the 4th channel but idk.

Graphics: I think it should have a 64 color selection, but how the palette should look is hard, due to how different they are. One thing I do know is that the tiles could be 3bpp (as apposed to the NES 2 BPP or the SMS 4BPP). Sprites with 7 colors plus transparency each palette (2 palettes). BG Tiles with 7 colors each palette (2 palettes) plus a base color each palette shared. Total colors on screen 29 (14 sprite + 15 BG). I chose 2 palettes, since the SMS has 1 palette for each tile type, and the NES has 4 palettes per tile type. There also could be sprite and BG flipping. Here's how 3BPP should look.

CPU: Probably the most difficult part mainly because the NES & SMS have completely different CPUs with different roots (NES 6502 => Motorola 6800, SMS Z80 => Intel 8080). Probably needs to be a custom CPU or engine. Also I don't know any assembly at all.
