Question about selecting console models in MESEN’s NES emulation settings

I have a question about the NES emulation settings in MESEN. In the “Other Settings” section, you can select a console model. Does this setting change anything different from the checkboxes below it?

I understand that each console has differences such as expansion ports and the presence of a microphone. Does this mean that the IO port settings change accordingly?
