The special effects in FFVI are some of the coolest from that era.
I especially like the amorphous effect (for lack of a better term) like Banish/X-Zone:

Anyone know from a technical standpoint how the SNES could achieve this effect in particular: the fluid animation on the changing boarder and also clipping/masking the enemy sprites so they are only visible were the void is overlapping them?
