Is there an intuitive way to add Sprite zero hits to the bottom of an 8-Way scrolling engine.

I would like To mask off the bottom of my screen just because the top and bottom 16 pixels not being evenly blacked out irritate me for personal and stupid reasons.

I am not using a mapper with an interrupt and my engine scrolls in 8 directions, My current plan is to reserve one of the character tiles as a buffer tile that becomes a selective copy of whatever tile is in the bottom right corner of the screen (with necessary pixels added to guarantee Sprite zero hit.)

Are there any better approaches than doing this?
